Desiccant Selection Starts With the Sealed Enclosure
Before choosing how many desiccant packets to buy, identify the enclosure whose humidity you intend to control. A packet inside a separately sealed product bag and a packet loose in the surrounding shipping carton are different arrangements. Mark the intended enclosure on the packing drawing so purchasing and packing refer to the same space.
Define the package that contains the desiccant
Clariant describes its desiccant packets as products for individual, properly sealed packages or containers. Its guidance does not support treating an open packing bench as an equivalent enclosure. Send the inputs needed for a sizing recommendation
Desiccare's manufacturer guidance identifies free internal air volume, barrier and closure, external temperature and humidity, moisture from internal materials, the target humidity and the protection period as sizing inputs. Gather those inputs for the actual pack rather than copying a packet count from another carton.
Use a labeled photograph to show where the liner closes and whether paper, cushioning or other materials sit inside that boundary. Attach the packaging material specification and describe when the package is opened. A supplier can then distinguish missing information from a deliberately specified condition.
Keep the packet specification separate from the dose
DES101 is a kraft clay desiccant bag listed at 1 × 2.5 × 0.25 inches, supplied as 1,200 bags per case. Those measurements identify the packet format. They do not state the clay mass, adsorption capacity at your target conditions or the number required for an enclosure.
Ask for the quantity recommendation in packets of the exact approved specification. Then translate that recommendation into purchasing cases. Keep any additional packets for process allowance separate from the technical quantity per sealed pack. This prevents a convenient case quantity from quietly becoming the packing instruction.
Revisit the recommendation when the pack changes
For a hypothetical reorder, the product remains the same but its individually sealed bags are replaced with one common liner. Send the revised enclosure drawing for review; the old count is attached to a different arrangement. Keep the returned recommendation, exact packet identity and approved packing drawing together.
