Foam Pouches or Interleaving for Stacked Parts?

Use the receiving sequence to decide whether foam should stay with each part or remain between layers of a stack. A pouch creates an individual package to evaluate for one item. An interleaving sheet separates adjacent layers while the stack remains assembled. Those arrangements answer different handling needs.

Start with what happens after the outer carton opens. If parts are removed one at a time and carried elsewhere, their individual coverings may need to travel with them. If a complete stack stays together until use, an interleaf arrangement may be practical. Neither choice establishes that the packed goods can withstand a particular shipment.

Map the contact surfaces

In a hypothetical kit, four finished plates share one carton. Identify face-to-face contact between plates, edge contact against the carton, and any contact with accessories. A sheet between two faces addresses that interface in the layout. It does not automatically cover the plate edges or keep the stack from shifting.

Compare the supplied formats

FP48 flush-cut polyethylene foam pouches are listed at 8 × 4 inches, with 1/8 inch foam and 500 pouches per case. FS2424 polyethylene air foam sheets are listed at 24 × 24 inches, 1/8 inch thick, and 200 sheets per case. These are two formats to trial; their listed dimensions do not establish that a particular part fits.

Do not count a flush-cut opening as an additional covered surface. Check the actual loaded pouch and the position of the item at its open end. With sheets, record which surfaces each piece separates and whether any folding or additional edge arrangement is required.

Count interfaces separately from parts

Four stacked parts have three internal face-to-face interfaces. If a hypothetical approved layout also uses a separate sheet beneath the stack and another above it, it contains five sheet placements: three internal, one bottom and one top. That is a layout count, not a protective specification or necessarily five full sheets removed from stock.

Four individually pouched parts instead require four pouch placements in that example. The smaller count does not establish lower consumption or better protection because the formats and coverage differ.

Rehearse the first removal

Open the trial pack, remove the first part, and observe what happens to the remaining pieces and separators. Repeat with the intended receiving team. Select the arrangement that preserves the required separation through the actual handling sequence, then evaluate the complete pack against your acceptance requirements.
