Individually Saleable Units or Shared Bulk Packing
Choose whether every item must leave its shipping carton ready for individual sale, or whether the recipient will receive and use the contents as a shared bulk supply. That decision determines which packaging belongs around each unit before you select the outer carton. A box holding twelve pieces is not necessarily a shipment of twelve independently saleable packs.
Define the unit the recipient needs
Start with the actual sales or receiving agreement. A retailer may need to remove one complete unit at a time, with its approved product information and accessories still attached. An internal assembly department may instead need a common supply that it opens once and distributes through its own process. Neither requirement can be inferred from the purchase order's total piece count alone.
For a hypothetical shipment of twelve small desk accessories, one route sends twelve individually packaged retail units. Another sends twelve accessories in one shared arrangement for an office installation. These are illustrative order formats, not approved applications for a particular carton.
Separate the outer shipment from the sale unit

Do not remove a product's required instructions, identification or other required components to simplify a bulk pack. If the requirement is unclear, resolve it with the product or order owner before buying materials. An outer packing list does not automatically replace information that must accompany each unit.
Purchase against the selected packing level
SKU 995 is a 9 × 9 × 5 inch ECT-32 kraft corrugated box supplied as 25 per bundle. It can be evaluated as an outer carton after the chosen unit-level packaging and protection have been established. Its bundle quantity does not determine the number of sale units inside each shipment.
Create a materials list with one line for each component used per individual unit and separate lines for components used once per outer shipment. This keeps purchasing from treating a shared sheet, outer carton or common document as though every product consumes one. Confirm the actual packing arrangement before calculating replenishment.
Check one unit after the outer carton is opened
For the retail route, remove one unit and check whether it remains complete and understandable without the other eleven. For the bulk route, ask the receiver to follow the intended distribution process. Record any information that disappears when the outer carton is discarded. Questions to ask before buying
Can I replace twelve retail packs with one shared inner pack?
Only when the order and product requirements allow bulk delivery. Confirm what must remain with each product after receiving separates the shipment.
Does the outer carton count tell me how many sale units to buy packaging for?
No. Record products per sale unit and sale units per outer carton separately, then calculate each packaging component from its own role.
