Choose between internal compartments and separate bins by how the contents will leave the shelf. Dividers create sections inside a container. Separate bins provide separate containers that can be assigned to different destinations. These arrangements can organize the same assortment while supporting different picking and handoff steps.

BINDS23 is a black plastic shelf-bin divider listed at 2⅞ x 3 inches. BINDS73 is a 7 x 3-inch black plastic divider. Each is supplied as 50 dividers per case. Their descriptions identify separation into sections within storage bins; neither listing establishes a match with every bin.

Decide what moves as one unit

Consider a hypothetical kit with three component types that always go to one workbench together. Keeping those components in three sections of one selected bin can preserve a single container handoff. The operator takes the bin containing the kit rather than retrieving three independent containers.

Now consider three component groups requested by three different benches at different times. One shared divided bin remains one shared container. Separate bins may better support those independent movements, because each destination can receive its own container while the others remain available.

This is a movement decision, not a calculation of how many pieces fit into a nominal volume. Establish the movement pattern before deciding which container arrangement to evaluate.

Keep the bin and divider specifications separate

For a compartmented arrangement, obtain the intended bin-and-divider combination from the relevant product specifications. Record the divider positions used in the approved arrangement. A divider's stated dimensions do not establish the number of sections in an unspecified bin, a sealed boundary, or an independently removable inner container.

Assign the handoff to the complete arrangement

Document whether the whole bin travels, whether parts are picked out while it stays on the shelf, and where the container returns after use. If groups must split between destinations, describe that step explicitly rather than expecting an internal divider to act as a separate carrying container.

Keep the selected bin and divider SKUs distinct on the order. The number of dividers supplied and the number of bins supplied are different purchasing units.
