Mailer Lid Clearance Beneath a Packing-Bench Shelf
A mailer can fit beneath a packing-bench shelf when closed and still lack room for its lid to open. Select the station position using the space occupied during opening and loading, not only the space occupied by the closed carton.
Measure the moving panel and its hinge position
For a simple drawing, treat the lid as one rigid rectangular panel rotating about a fixed horizontal hinge. Measure the hinge height above the bench and the lid reach perpendicular to the hinge line, from that line to the furthest panel edge in the direction of opening. Measure the shelf underside from the same bench reference.
This is a geometric screening model. An actual fold-and-tuck mailer also has tabs, folds, board thickness and an assembly sequence. Its panel may flex. Those details require the real opening path to be checked and must not be replaced by this idealized drawing.
Compare closed height with the opening envelope
Assume a hypothetical hinge height of 3 inches, a lid reach of 8.25 inches and a shelf underside 10.5 inches above the bench. These are invented measured dimensions for the example, not dimensions derived from any product's listed inside size.

If the shelf occupies the panel's swept path, the lid cannot reach the vertical position in that location without interference. A drawing of the closed carton would miss this conflict. Opening farther than 90 degrees does not avoid the vertical position that the panel must pass through first.
Check the whole path against actual furniture
The height comparison matters where the shelf physically overlaps the moving panel. Draw the shelf's front edge and depth as well as its underside height. A panel opening in front of the shelf is a different arrangement from one rotating directly beneath it.
Include the backward sweep if the required opening extends past vertical. Check adjacent cartons, bins and fixed equipment along the actual path. Leave the space required for the intended loading motion and hands; the simple panel calculation supplies no universal operating-clearance allowance.
Choose the station position with the actual mailer
ML883K is a kraft fold-and-tuck mailer listed with inside dimensions of 8 × 8 × 3 inches, supplied as 50 per bundle. Those inside dimensions do not give the hinge height above the bench, the full lid reach or the outside swept envelope. Obtain those measurements from the assembled candidate.
Evaluate an unobstructed position or a revised station layout if the required opening path conflicts with the shelf. Record the chosen mailer, bench position and loading sequence before standardizing the setup. A station-clearance check supports a purchasing decision; contents fit and finished-package protection still require their own approval.
