Packing List Enclosed Label or Document Envelope?

Use a “Packing List Enclosed” label when the job needs a printed notice. Use a packing-list envelope when the job needs a physical pocket for paperwork. The same words can appear on both products, but a printed paper label does not create a document pocket.

Start by deciding where the actual packing list will travel and when the receiver needs to reach it. That decision comes before choosing the notice size or arranging pages inside an envelope.

Compare the two supplied formats

Printed notice versus document envelope
SKU Listed product facts Role in the workflow
DL1203 3 x 5 in fluorescent red “Packing List Enclosed” labels; semi-gloss coated paper; 500 labels per roll Provide the printed notice while the paperwork has its own location
GSA20EL 5.25 x 8 in clear 2 mil poly packing-list envelopes; preprinted “Packing List Enclosed”; hot melt adhesive backing; 1,000 envelopes per case Provide a document envelope and the preprinted message together

The envelope's listed dimensions do not establish its usable internal document area. Confirm the actual packet, opening and attachment arrangement before adopting it. The label's dimensions describe the notice format, not a paper-holding capacity.

Choose by where the paperwork belongs

Consider a hypothetical fulfillment operation with two customer instructions. For Customer A, the packing list goes inside the carton and is retrieved when the carton is opened. The station needs an exterior notice, so DL1203 is a label candidate after the packer has placed the correct paper inside.

For Customer B, receiving staff need the packing list attached outside the carton so they can retrieve it without opening the product compartment. A label alone does not perform that task. GSA20EL is an envelope candidate, subject to checking the paper packet and the intended attachment method.

These are assumed customer workflows, not carrier requirements. Use the actual order instructions to choose the document location. Do not change where paperwork travels merely because one supply is already on the bench.

Check whether a second notice adds anything

GSA20EL already carries the “Packing List Enclosed” message. If the operation needs that message on the document envelope, a separate label may repeat information already present. Add another notice only for a defined instruction or placement need; do not assume every filled envelope also requires DL1203.

Conversely, applying a label is not evidence that the packing list was inserted. Keep the document-placement step and the notice-application step distinct. At the handoff, verify that the correct paperwork is actually in the location the packing instruction specifies.

Write the format into the packing instruction

Record the document location, selected SKU and point at which the paperwork is checked. If an envelope is selected, then address the packet's page order, fold and visible reference as a separate preparation task. Neither format replaces the parcel's shipping label or establishes compliance with a shipping service's rules.

Review DL1203 packing-list notice labels and GSA20EL preprinted packing-list envelopes. Use the packing-list envelope guide when a different pocket format is needed.
