Plan Pick-and-Pack Foam Cavities on the Perforation Grid
Plan the entire insert before removing the first foam square. Each cavity shares the sheet with other cavities, intact foam between them and the outer border. An item outline alone does not describe how the completed insert will be handled or how the item will be lifted out.
Use the stated one-inch grid
FPP242411 is a 24 x 24 x 1 inch polyurethane pick-and-pack foam sheet. Its product description identifies pre-perforated one-inch squares, and the order unit is 12 sheets per case. The one-inch grid is a concrete layout constraint: selecting whole squares creates a stepped boundary rather than an arbitrary smooth outline.
The product is described as anti-static. That description does not supply a static-shielding rating or establish suitability for every electronic assembly. This planning method concerns cavity layout, not an electrical-protection specification.
Draw occupied and retained areas
On a plan view, mark the item outline, the squares proposed for removal, the foam to retain between items and the outer border. Add the location where fingers would reach the item. If two removal regions touch, the drawing has one connected opening at that location rather than an intact separating bridge.

Understand a grid change before making it
As a geometric example, a proposed rectangular removal region three squares wide and five squares long spans a nominal 3 x 5 inches on the stated grid. Adding one full column makes it 4 x 5 inches. That is a substantial layout change, not a fractional clearance adjustment. These dimensions illustrate grid arithmetic; they are not a recommended cavity size for a particular part.
Do not assume a single retained square is a sufficient bridge or that the sheet thickness supplies the required bottom support. Minimum retained widths, compression and the supporting package depend on the actual assembly and are not established by the grid size.
Include removal from the insert
A cavity that accepts an item can still leave no convenient place to grip it. Mark the intended lifting point and any separate finger-access region before committing the layout. Account for that additional removed area when considering nearby cavities and the outer border.
Keep the approved grid drawing, orientation and part version together. This gives the next packer a defined pattern rather than asking them to recreate the insert by eye.
