Prewired Tags or Separate Wire at the Preparation Stage?

Choose prewired tags when the supplied tag-and-wire assembly matches the intended tagging process; choose separate supplies when the preparation step needs to remain with your operation. This is a decision about where assembly occurs, not a promise that every prewired tag reduces total work.

Start by identifying who prepares the tags, who attaches them to the goods and whether those are the same person. Then decide which supplies each stage must receive.

Compare the supplied assemblies

G10053 is a 4¾ × 2⅜-inch, 13-point manila shipping tag supplied prewired with 12 inches of 26-gauge wire. It has a reinforced 3/16-inch eyelet and is listed as 1,000 tags per case.

G10051 is a manila shipping tag with the same listed face dimensions, 13-point stock and a reinforced 3/16-inch eyelet. Its description identifies string or wire as attachment options without establishing that either is included.

G2500 is a separate supply of 12-inch, 26-gauge silver tag wire, precut and listed as 1,000 pieces per case. These facts identify a wire supply to evaluate alongside the unassembled tag; they do not prescribe an attachment method for every item.

Locate preparation in the handoff

In a hypothetical stockroom, one person prepares marked tags and another attaches them during receiving. A prewired tag supplies the wire as part of the tag delivered to that preparation step. Separate stock requires the operation to decide when the wire is added and who owns that action.

Specify the expected handoff explicitly. “Tags ready for receiving” could mean written tags only or written tags with wire already attached. If the meaning is left unstated, the next operator may receive the correct information without the attachment supply needed to use it.

Preserve the tag and wire specifications

If wire is supplied separately, keep its identifier with the tag record rather than treating all loose wire as equivalent. The listed length and gauge are material specifications. They do not establish a load rating or suitability for tying goods together.

For prewired stock, a replacement request should preserve both the tag construction and the supplied wire description. Reordering only by tag face size can lose the assembly feature that the station expects.

Choose the arrangement your process actually needs

Record the tag SKU, attachment supply and preparation stage together. Keep completed and unprepared tags distinguishable where both exist. Select prewired or separate stock according to that defined work sequence, then establish the actual item attachment through the approved tagging method.
