Repack Work Order and the Replacement Carton Record
Use a “Repack” label to direct a package into the repacking task defined by your operation. Preserve the connection between the incoming carton, its contents, and the replacement package. A message on the old carton cannot provide that connection after the old carton is discarded.
Start with the carton that arrives at the bench
DL2621 is a 3 x 5 inch fluorescent green “Repack” label on semi-gloss paper, supplied as 500 labels per roll. The printed word names a task; it does not specify why repacking is needed, identify the contents, or establish that replacement packing has been completed.
Before the original carton leaves the work position, identify the package and the applicable repacking instruction. Keep the source identity available while the contents are transferred. The need to replace packaging does not, by itself, authorize changing the assortment or quantity.
Preserve the contents through the transfer
Suppose hypothetical carton R41 contains ten hinges and two mounting kits. Its outer carton is to be replaced, while the contents remain together. The repacking record should connect R41 to replacement carton R41-B and preserve both item lines.
| Item | In source carton R41 | Placed in R41-B |
|---|---|---|
| Hinges | 10 pieces | 10 pieces |
| Mounting kits | 2 kits | 2 kits |
The example preserves the unit of each line. Combining the result into “twelve items” would hide the difference between individual hinges and kits. If one mounting kit remains outside the replacement carton, leave that difference visible and resolve it through the assigned task instead of signing off the full transfer.
Move the active package information
Connect the replacement carton to the shipment or stock reference required for its next stage. Decide which identifying information must accompany it and which markings on the source carton will become obsolete. Do not leave the only useful reference attached to discarded packaging.
If the operation retains the original package identifier, make clear which physical carton is now active. If it assigns a replacement identifier such as R41-B, keep the relationship to R41 available. Either convention needs to avoid two cartons appearing to represent the same active contents.
Separate the request from completion
After the transfer, the completion step should establish that the instructed packing arrangement and contents reconciliation are finished. A “Repack” label remaining visible is not evidence of that result. Follow the operation's method for closing the task and retiring its temporary markings.
Choose DL2621 for the task message when that wording fits the work instruction, and provide the package-reference method separately. The inventory-label guide offers related marking formats. The useful buying outcome is a recognizable work request that survives the transition to a correctly identified replacement package.
