Single-Parcel Packaging Tare or Mailer Bundle Weight?
Measure the packaging used for one finished parcel before assigning it a tare weight. A purchasing bundle and a customer shipment are different objects. Even a confirmed bundle weight cannot simply become the packaging weight entered for every outbound order.
For example, ML1082 white corrugated literature mailers are listed at 10.25 × 8.25 × 2 inches, with ECT-32-B board details and 50 mailers per bundle. That buying unit identifies the stock received. It does not establish the weight of one completed packaging kit.
Define what belongs in the packaging measurement
For this worksheet, define merchandise as the sold items together with any retail packs you decide to include in their recorded weight. Keep that boundary consistent. Everything added around that merchandise to prepare the parcel belongs in the packaging total: the shipping mailer, internal protection, packing documents, shipping label and sealing materials.

Use the same merchandise for both readings
Record the merchandise weight, then pack those same items using the approved method and weigh the finished parcel. Use the same units and scale, with the empty weighing platform reading zero. Do not add another product, remove a retail sleeve or change the merchandise boundary between readings.
In a hypothetical example, merchandise weighs 740 grams and the finished parcel weighs 925 grams. The packaging tare is 925 − 740 = 185 grams. If the bare mailer separately weighs 110 grams, the remaining packaging accounts for 75 grams. Those are invented measurements, not ML1082 specifications.
The bare mailer alone would understate this example's packaging total by 75 grams. Conversely, entering 185 grams as the whole shipment weight would omit the merchandise. Keep the completed gross reading with the shipment record.
Compare complete methods before reordering
When comparing two approved mailers, use the same merchandise and record each complete packaging kit. A lighter empty mailer may require a different set of inserts or protection. Compare the measured totals instead of assuming that the difference between empty mailers survives unchanged in the finished parcel.
Retain the packaging SKU, component list, measurement units and method version together. Recheck the total when that list changes. Several measured packs can reveal variation; a single sample should not silently become an exact weight for every future order.
