Stretch Netting or Continuous Film for an Open-Sided Wrap?

Choose between netting and continuous film by the surface the wrapping plan requires. Knitted netting has openings in its structure. A film web supplies a continuous material surface. These formats remain different even when both products are described as pallet wrap.

Start by describing what must remain exposed and what needs continuous coverage. A preference for one format does not establish the number of wraps, required containment or suitability for a particular load.

Compare the actual constructions

SN20GOOD is listed as 20-inch × 500-foot stretch netting, constructed from knitted high-density polyethylene. It comes in a case of four rolls, with two dispenser handles per roll stated in the description.

SF186CAST is an 18-inch × 2,000-foot clear cast hand stretch film, listed at 60 gauge and four rolls per case. It is the continuous-film example in this comparison. Its listed gauge describes that film; the netting listing does not provide a corresponding film-gauge specification.

Do not compare these products by applying the film's gauge to the netting or assuming equal coverage from equal roll lengths. One is a knitted structure and the other is a film web. Their different widths and supplied handling arrangements also remain part of the selection.

Draw the intended outer surface

Consider a hypothetical group of cartons for which an internal brief requests an open wrapping structure. Show that requirement explicitly on the pack plan, rather than recording only “clear wrap.” Netting is a format to evaluate against that brief.

If the brief instead needs a continuous outer material over a particular face, draw the required coverage and select a continuous-film arrangement to evaluate. The presence of continuous film does not automatically create a sealed, waterproof or otherwise qualified enclosure.

Keep labels and receiving tasks visible in the plan

Identify the information the receiving team must read before removing the wrap. Decide whether its label belongs on the carton, on a separate display or elsewhere in the approved arrangement. Then check it in the completed pack. Clear film and open netting present different surfaces in front of a label, and neither description guarantees a successful scan.

Also specify the receiving sequence: what is removed first, where loose wrapping material goes and which items remain grouped after opening. This records the intended operation without treating the wrapping format as a substitute for the load design.

Evaluate the complete arrangement separately

Select the construction that meets the surface brief, then assess the complete wrapped load against your own handling requirements. The knitted HDPE description does not establish an airflow rate, temperature result or condensation outcome. Likewise, the cast-film dimensions do not establish a load rating for your particular arrangement.
