Thermal Labels: Direct Thermal & Thermal Transfer

Thermal labels · printer and supply guide

Match the printer before you buy the case.

Direct thermal and thermal transfer use different printing processes. Match the method, label dimensions, supply format and printer requirements before comparing whole cases.

Find thermal label candidates

Compare 11 curated SKUs. Case counts mean rolls or fanfold stacks, never the count of individual labels.

Set your requirements, then build the plan. These are curated catalog candidates; final fit and shipping need confirmation.

Direct thermal

The label reacts to heat

A direct thermal printhead marks heat-sensitive label stock without a ribbon. Confirm that the printer supports direct thermal media and check the application’s durability requirements.

Thermal transfer

Ribbon transfers the image

The printhead transfers material from a ribbon onto the label. Confirm the ribbon and facestock pairing, printer method and supply geometry. A 4 × 6 inch size does not establish printer compatibility.

The printer compatibility checklist

  1. Method and media size

Check direct thermal versus thermal transfer, supported print width, label width and height, gap or mark sensing, and the printer’s media settings.

  2. Core and outer diameter

For rolls, verify the exact core, maximum roll diameter, winding and holder configuration. For fanfold, verify the feed path and stack format.

  3. Application and count

Confirm adhesive, facestock, ribbon if required, exposure conditions, labels per roll or stack, and rolls or stacks per case. Ask for the exact printer-model match.

Labels per roll or fanfold stack are not used in this planner because this selection does not provide consistently verified individual-label counts. Use current product prices and verify the exact count before comparing cost per label.

Questions before you order

Can I buy any 4 × 6 thermal label for my printer?

No. Match the printer’s supported method, media width, supply format, core, outer diameter, sensing and feed requirements. Ask for an exact model match rather than relying on the label size or printer brand.

Does a case of 4 mean four labels?

For the roll-format products in this selection, it means four rolls. The fanfold listing is counted as two stacks per case. Individual labels per roll or stack must be confirmed separately.

Does the planner certify Zebra, Rollo, Dymo or other printer compatibility?

It does not. Enter your exact model for the quote and check its media requirements against the exact SKU. Brand-level references alone do not establish a match.

How do I compare thermal label prices fairly?

Compare the same dimensions, method, adhesive, format and verified label count, then include actual shipping. This tool shows case and roll or stack economics; it withholds cost per individual label without a verified count.
