SELECTION EXPERT ADVICE
Overview
Shop shrink film by format first: precut shrink bags, shrink tubing and center-folded film create different packing steps. Keep material, gauge, width and roll length together. These examples are packaging films; the product title alone does not establish settings for your heat equipment.
For an established process, retain the accepted material and equipment requirements while comparing purchase quantities. For a new process, evaluate the film with your sealer, heat equipment and actual product before setting a repeat order.
Shrink bags, tubing and film rolls
| SKU | Format and material evidence | Listed dimensions / gauge | Purchase quantity |
|---|---|---|---|
| SHB1822H | Precut clear PVC shrink bags | 18 × 22 in; 100 gauge | 100 bags/case |
| SHT16100 | Clear shrink tubing; material to confirm | 16 in; 100 gauge; 1,500 ft | Sold by the roll |
| SH1460 | Center-folded polyolefin film | 14 in; 60 gauge; 4,375 ft | 1/case |
| SH1475 | Polyolefin film; fold format to confirm | 14 in; 75 gauge; 3,500 ft | Supplied rolls per unit to confirm |
| SH16100 | Polyolefin film; fold format to confirm | 16 in; 100 gauge; 2,625 ft | 1/case |
The 1,500-foot tubing is a separate SKU from the longer polyolefin rolls. A gauge number does not identify PVC versus polyolefin, fold format or roll length. The 18 × 22-inch shrink bag is a finished bag size listing, not a 22-inch film web.
Choose a format around the packing task
- Measure the item, including protrusions and any tray or backing used in the finished pack.
- Record the approved bag size or the film cut pattern, with sealing and trimming allowance.
- Confirm material and film format against the equipment manufacturer’s media requirements.
- Run representative packs, recording closure quality, appearance, consumed film and rejected pieces.
- Order whole cases or rolls using the exact supplied quantity.
A precut bag removes the roll-cutting step but fixes the listed bag size. Tubing allows a selected cut length within its width requirement. Center-folded film has a folded web; confirm what the listed width represents before calculating coverage. These format differences do not establish which material is suitable for a particular food, temperature-sensitive item or equipment setup.
Quantity example for a 750-item run
At one accepted SHB1822H bag per item, 750 items require eight 100-bag cases: 800 bags supplied and 50 remaining. Use the bag count after validating fit and the heat process; an allowance for rejected bags changes the purchasing requirement.
For a measured tubing cut of 20 inches on each of 750 items, nominal film use is 1,250 linear feet. A 10% planning allowance gives 1,375 feet, within one 1,500-foot SHT16100 roll. If trial packs require a longer cut or higher waste, recalculate from those measurements. The 10% allowance is an example, not a guaranteed yield.
For roll comparisons, calculate delivered cost per accepted pack using actual consumption and reject rate. A lower roll price, larger footage number or thinner gauge alone cannot establish lower finished-pack cost.
Comparing a Uline shrink-film order
Include the exact Uline model in Request a delivered quote. Provide PVC or polyolefin requirement, bag or film format, listed width convention, gauge, nominal footage, supplied roll count and equipment model. These Packrift examples are candidates to check against that requirement; no Uline model is labeled an exact replacement on this page.
