Precut Tape Strips or Rolls at Distributed Packing Benches?

Precut strips move the length-setting step into the supplied format; tape rolls leave that step at the packing station. Choose between them by the strip lengths the approved packing process actually uses and how operators receive the material.

A strip format can simplify one defined part of the material flow, but it does not establish a faster packing cycle or an acceptable carton seal. Those outcomes depend on the full operation, including handling the strip and positioning it correctly.

Compare the supplied forms

TS2012 consists of precut carton-sealing tape strips listed at 2 × 12 inches, supplied as a 100-pack. T901131 is clear acrylic carton-sealing tape listed at 2 inches × 55 yards per roll, 3.1 mil, with 36 rolls per case.

The strip has a fixed supplied length. The roll provides continuous stock from which the operation cuts its chosen lengths. The strip description does not establish a liner, backing card, or other release arrangement, so confirm the actual supplied presentation before designing how strips will be picked up and staged.

Start with the approved strip schedule

In a hypothetical packing cell, one approved carton layout uses a 12-inch strip at a particular step. Another carton needs a different length at the corresponding step. The first requirement matches the listed length of TS2012; the second calls for a different supplied strip or a cut length from an appropriate roll.

Do not shorten an established closure pattern simply to use a stock strip. Likewise, adding a second strip changes the arrangement rather than automatically creating the equivalent of one longer continuous piece. Review that change as part of the carton closure.

Follow the material to each bench

With rolls, identify where dispensing and cutting happen and which equipment supports the selected tape. If every bench cuts its own strips, each needs the corresponding material and equipment arrangement. A central preparation point instead introduces a transfer step between cutting and application.

With supplied strips, identify where unopened stock is kept, how one strip is separated from the supplied presentation, and how it reaches the carton. Avoid designing a staging method that requires exposed adhesive to rest on an unintended surface. Establish the actual handling arrangement from the supplied product.

Order for the selected process

Record the strip dimensions or roll SKU together with the operation that uses it. Keep different fixed lengths identifiable at the point of use. Count replenishment in the correct unit: strips for the precut product and rolls for the roll product.

Choose the format that supports the required strip schedule and workstation arrangement, then evaluate the completed closure. The decision is where length preparation happens and how the prepared material is handled, rather than a presumption that every repeated packing task benefits from precut tape.
