How to Tape a Box Like a Pro

How to Tape a Box Like a Pro

Use the H-seal: one strip along the center seam, then strips across the two short edges on top AND bottom. Press firmly with a tape dispenser for proper adhesion. Use 2" tape for standard boxes, 3" for heavy (25+ lb) cartons.

Frequently asked

Do I really need an H-seal?

It's the carrier-approved method and prevents most in-transit seam failures. A single strip down the center is enough for light shipments but fails under load.

How much tape per box?

H-seal uses about 3 feet of 2" tape per box. A 110 yd roll seals roughly 110 boxes.

Is a tape gun worth it?

Yes at 20+ boxes/day — a handheld tape gun doubles packing speed vs. free-hand taping.

What if the tape won't stick to a cold box?

Hot-melt tape stiffens below ~20°F. Switch to acrylic tape or warm up the box seam by rubbing before taping.
