Packing-peanut void-volume calculator
Void per box = (box interior volume − packed-item envelope volume) ÷ 1,728. Total = void × boxes × (1 + allowance %). Bags = round up(total ÷ nominal bag volume). Rectangular geometry does not model irregular shapes, settling or protective performance.
For twenty 12 × 12 × 12-inch interiors containing an 8 × 8 × 8-inch packed envelope, the geometric void is 14.074 cubic feet. Adding an entered 10% allowance gives about 15.48 cubic feet. Three nominal 7-cubic-foot bags provide 21 cubic feet. This is a purchasing estimate; confirm the actual packing method and supplied bag count.
