How to choose a gusseted poly bag

Read the size as width x gusset x length

Every size on this page reads width x gusset x length, in inches. Width is the face of the bag with the gussets folded in. The gusset is how deep the bag opens. Length runs from the open top to the bottom seal. A 10 x 8 x 24 bag is 10 inches wide, opens 8 inches deep and is 24 inches long. Most product specs give these as inside, usable dimensions.

Measure the item first. Choose a width and gusset at least as large as the item's width and depth, then a length that covers its height with room left to close the top. Some suppliers list bottom gusset bags as width x length x gusset, so check the order of the numbers when you compare sizes.

Side gusset or bottom gusset

The open top bags here, in clear polyethylene, polypropylene and pink anti-static film, have side gussets. The sides fold in and open out as the bag fills. The zipper bags in the last table have a gusseted bottom, so a filled bag can stand upright. The two resealable lip bags also expand at the bottom.

Thickness and film

Thickness is in mil. One mil is one thousandth of an inch, or 0.0254 mm. Sizes stocked in more than one thickness sit together in the tables, so you can compare the price per bag. The 12 x 8 x 24 size, for example, is listed in six thicknesses, 1 to 6 mil. The polypropylene bags are high clarity film, the style many buyers call cello bags.

Buying by the case and pallet

Each price is for one full case. Bags per case run from 50 on the largest sizes to 2,000 on the smallest polypropylene bags. Volume pricing comes off at checkout: 3% at 3 or more items in the cart and 5% at 6 or more, and cases from different rows count together.

Orders of one or two items with a product subtotal of $500 or more ship free when the checkout freight rate is $120 or less. Orders of three or more items get the volume discount instead of free shipping. Orders of one or two items get free ground shipping in the US at $99 or more when the checkout shipping charge is $29.95 or less. Checkout shows the freight for your address before you pay, and orders ship to street addresses in the contiguous United States.
