How to choose painter's tape

Blue or green

The blue 5.2 mil tape lists clean removal for up to 14 days, and the green 5.0 mil tape is listed for latex, solvent and alkyd paints. Check each listing's removal time against how long the tape will stay on, and pull it sooner on hot or sunny jobs.

Pick a width

Narrow 1/2 and 3/4 inch rolls follow trim, window muntins and tight edges. 1 to 2 inch rolls cover most wall and trim lines, and 3 inch rolls give a wider guard against roller and brush marks.

Painter's tape or masking tape
