How to choose 4 mil reclosable bags

Size

Sizes are listed width first, then length. The zipper runs across the width. For a flat item, pick a bag a little wider and longer than the item. For a thick item, add its thickness to both the width and the length. A 4 x 6 in part that is 1 in thick needs at least a 5 x 7 in bag, plus room to close the zipper.

Thickness

A mil is one thousandth of an inch. 4 mil film is 0.004 in thick, about 102 microns. That is twice the thickness of 2 mil film and two thirds of 6 mil. For a lighter bag, see 2 mil reclosable bags. Reclosable bags in 3, 6 and 8 mil are on the reclosable poly bags page.

Zipper, film and uses

Most clear bags list a single track zipper across the full width. Double track bags have two zipper tracks. White block bags carry a white block to write on. Hang hole bags have a pre-punched hole for display hooks, and some also carry a printed white block for part numbers. The listings name uses such as parts and hardware, food and ingredient storage, kitting and retail packs.

Volume pricing comes off at checkout: 3% at 3 or more items in the cart and 5% at 6 or more. Orders of one or two items with a product subtotal of $500 or more ship free when the checkout freight rate is $120 or less. Orders of three or more items get the volume discount instead of free shipping. Orders of one or two items get free ground shipping in the US at $99 or more when the checkout shipping charge is $29.95 or less.
