How to choose suffocation warning bags

Size

Poly bag sizes read width by length, and the width is the open end. Leave room for the item and for the seal. Amazon's bagging requirements say an FBA bag must not extend more than 3 in past the product.

Thickness

A mil is one thousandth of an inch. Every bag in the tables is clear LDPE film. Amazon's bagging requirements set a 1.5 mil minimum for FBA poly bags, so use the 1.5 or 2 mil bags for FBA prep. The 1 mil bags fit retail, kitting and warehouse bagging where that minimum does not apply.

Closure

The 1.5 mil bags close with a resealable adhesive strip: peel off the strip and fold the flap. The 1 and 2 mil bags are flat with an open end. Close them with tape or a heat sealer.

Vent holes

The 9 x 12, 10 x 15, 12 x 18 and 14 x 20 in resealable bags also come with two 1/4 in vent holes that let air escape. They carry the same printed warning.

The listings give the printed warning as: "WARNING: To avoid danger of suffocation, keep away from babies and children. Do not use in cribs, beds, carriages or playpens. The thin film may cling to nose and mouth and prevent breathing." It is printed in English, Spanish and French. Amazon's bagging requirements give a different required wording, ending "This bag is not a toy." If a bag does not carry that warning, Amazon says to apply a sticker with the warning text in a prominent spot.

Buying by the case

Resealable bags come 1,000 to a case up to 14 x 20 in and 500 to a case from 16 x 20 in. The 2 mil flat bags come 1,000 to a case up to 16 x 16 in and 500 from 18 x 24 in. The 1 mil bags come 1,000 to a case. Most sizes also sell in packs of 100. For each size, the table row is the in-stock pack that costs less per bag.

Volume pricing applies at checkout: 3% off 3 or more items and 5% off 6 or more, with a higher tier on some listings. Orders of one or two items get free ground shipping in the US at $99 or more when the checkout shipping charge is $29.95 or less. What size bag needs a suffocation warning for Amazon?

Amazon's bagging requirements call for a warning on any poly bag with an opening of 5 in or more, measured flat. The warning can be printed on the bag or applied as a label. Every bag in these tables opens 6 in or wider.

Why do poly bags carry a suffocation warning?

Amazon's bagging page says certain states and cities require a printed warning on bagged items to alert consumers, especially those with children, to the suffocation hazard. Amazon requires the warning on FBA bags with an opening of 5 in or more.

How large must the warning print be?

Amazon's bagging requirements set the minimum by the bag's length plus width: 10 point under 29 in, 14 point at 30 to 39 in, 18 point at 40 to 59 in and 24 point at 60 in or more. A 12 x 15 in bag totals 27 in, so 10 point. An 18 x 24 in bag totals 42 in, so 18 point.

Can I use resealable bags for FBA?

Yes. Amazon's bagging requirements ask for a bag sealed with tape or an adhesive strip. The 1.5 mil bags close with an adhesive strip and meet the 1.5 mil minimum.

Can I buy fewer than 1,000 bags?

Yes. Most sizes come in packs of 100, shown in the product list on this page. For each size, the tables show the in-stock pack that costs less per bag.
