How to choose tissue paper

Sheet size

Pick a sheet that covers the item with enough left to fold over. A 20 x 30 in sheet is 600 sq in, twice the area of a 15 x 20 in sheet, and cuts in half into two 15 x 20 in sheets. Use 10 x 15 and 12 x 18 in for small bags and boxes, 15 x 20 in to line gift bags and boxes, and 20 x 30 in to wrap folded apparel or line larger cartons.

Basis weight

Tissue is rated by basis weight: the weight in pounds of a 480-sheet ream cut to 24 x 36 in. That puts 10 lb tissue at about 17 g per square meter. Every listing except the recycled cases states a basis weight: 10 lb for white, kraft, colors and economy, 11 lb for the metallics. The 18 lb heavy sheets carry 80% more paper by weight per square inch and are listed for void fill and packing.

Grade

Gift grade cases hold 200 to 960 sheets for wrap the customer sees. Economy, void fill and heavy cases hold 1,700 to 9,600 sheets for interleaving, carton lining and filling space. The recycled white and kraft cases are listed as 100% recycled and hold 480 sheets.

Color

All 28 solid colors, metallic gold and silver, a 20-color assortment and a 5-color pastel assortment come in 20 x 30 in. Six colors also come in 15 x 20 in gift grade, 960 sheets per case. For holiday orders, the 20 x 30 in range includes holiday green, evergreen, kelly green, scarlet, mandarin red, cabernet and both metallics.

Every price is for one case. Price per sheet lets a 4,800-sheet economy case and a 480-sheet gift case compare directly. Volume pricing comes off at checkout: 3% at 3 or more items in the cart and 5% at 6 or more, and any mix of colors and sizes counts. Orders of one or two items get free ground shipping in the US at $99 or more when the checkout shipping charge is $29.95 or less. Orders of one or two items with a product subtotal of $500 or more ship free when the checkout freight rate is $120 or less. Orders of three or more items get the volume discount instead of free shipping.

Large economy and heavy orders can ship by LTL freight, depending on quantity, weight and destination. Checkout shows the rate for your address before you pay. 20 x 30 in is the sheet every color here comes in. 15 x 20 in is half that sheet, sized for lining bags and small boxes.

How many sheets of tissue paper are in a ream?
