Kraft Paper Roll Size and Weight Chart: 30 lb to 60 lb by Width and Length
Use a kraft paper roll’s width, length and basis weight as separate specifications. Coverage is width in feet × length in feet. Basis weight is a paper-weight convention; it is not an exact thickness or strength rating.
Two roll formats to compare
| SKU | Width × length | Basis weight | Nominal flat area | Order-unit evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KP1830 | 18 in × 1,200 ft | 30 lb | 1,800 sq ft | One roll per unit explicit |
| KP1540 | 15 in × 900 ft | 40 lb | 1,125 sq ft | Supplied rolls per unit to confirm |
These rolls differ in width, length and basis weight. The comparison does not establish that one protects the same contents or feeds the same dispenser as the other. Check roll and core dimensions against the cutter or packing equipment.
Basis weight is not caliper
For a 3,000-square-foot reference ream, pounds per ream × approximately 1.627 gives grams per square meter: 30 lb is about 48.8 gsm, 40 lb about 65.1, 50 lb about 81.4 and 60 lb about 97.6. Use that conversion only when the supplier uses this basis convention.
Paper caliper is measured thickness. Fiber, coatings, compression and manufacturing change it, so this page does not convert a basis-weight number into inches of thickness or a certified cushioning rating. If caliper matters, ask for the exact paper’s specification.
An approximate paper-only mass can be calculated as basis pounds × area ÷ 3,000 under the same convention. It excludes the core and packaging and is not a shipping-weight or lifting recommendation. See Uline’s stated 30 lb roll and basis-weight reference for an example of a supplier’s separate measurements.
Plan a measured cutting run
Kraft roll coverage and cutting calculator
Area = width ÷ 12 × roll feet. Rolls = round up(pieces × cut length ÷ 12 × (1 + waste %) ÷ roll feet). Assumes full-width pieces; it does not model crumpled void-fill performance.
For 1,000 pieces cut 24 inches long with 5% waste, the plan uses 2,100 linear feet. Two confirmed 1,200-foot rolls supply 2,400 feet. Measure consumption in your actual packing method before using that plan for replenishment.
Butcher paper versus kraft packing paper
Use the material and coating requirement for the job. A brown kraft packing-paper roll is not automatically approved for direct food contact or interchangeable with butcher or freezer paper. Confirm food-contact documentation, coating and moisture requirements for the exact SKU. A coating also changes the disposal route; do not infer recyclability from the word paper.
Questions before ordering
Does 40 lb paper have to be thicker than 30 lb?
It has greater mass per area under the same basis convention. Exact caliper and strength require the product specification.
How many boxes will a roll fill?
That depends on your measured packing method, cut size, layers and waste. Nominal flat coverage does not establish the volume of crumpled fill.
Can I compare roll prices directly?
Match paper type, width, basis convention, coating and the number of rolls supplied. Include actual delivery and keep quantity calculations separate from packaging performance.
