Partial-Carton Quantity Versus Unfilled Order Lines

A carton can contain fewer units than its standard pack while completely fulfilling an order. An order can also remain incomplete even when every dispatched carton is full. Choose “Partial Carton” or a broader “Partial” message only after defining which of these conditions the operation needs to communicate.

Compare two different quantity questions

Assume a hypothetical item normally arrives twelve pieces per carton. A customer orders five pieces, and the warehouse is permitted to split the pack. The outgoing carton contains five pieces and fulfills all five requested. It is partial relative to the standard carton quantity, but the order has no outstanding pieces.

In another hypothetical order, the customer requests eighteen pieces. The warehouse dispatches one full twelve-piece carton and records six pieces as still outstanding. The dispatched carton is full, while the order is incomplete.

These are assumed examples, not Packrift pack quantities or a recommendation to split a customer's order. The authorized fulfillment process determines whether either shipment is allowed.

Buy wording with a defined scope

DL1760 is a 3 x 5 inch fluorescent red “Partial Carton” label on semi-gloss paper, supplied as 500 per roll. The word carton identifies the physical package whose quantity needs attention.

DL1123 is a 3 x 5 inch fluorescent yellow “Partial” label on semi-gloss paper, also supplied as 500 per roll. Its shorter message needs a local convention explaining what is partial. Do not expect the color to supply that missing scope.

Give the receiver the quantity they need

For the five-piece example, make the actual quantity and unit available with the carton identity. The receiver should record five pieces, not multiply one carton by the normal twelve-piece ratio. Keep the fulfilled order quantity visible in the order record so the carton message does not trigger an unnecessary shortage inquiry.

For the eighteen-piece example, keep the six outstanding pieces in the fulfillment record. Marking a full carton “Partial Carton” would misdescribe its contents and still would not identify which order lines remain open.

Preserve the distinction at replenishment

Specify both the label wording and its intended use when ordering replacements. A same-size “Partial” roll is not automatically a substitute for a convention built around “Partial Carton.” The inventory-label guide supplies broader formats. Choose the message that helps the next person reconcile the actual carton with the actual order, without treating either label as proof that quantities were counted.
