Product listings reviewed October 2, 2026 · U.S. packaging buyers
Uline and Grainger both sell packaging and shipping supplies. The useful comparison is your actual order: the required product, the physical quantity, the delivered total and the purchasing terms your business uses. Packrift is another option to evaluate for stock packaging lines that meet your specification.
Start with the products on your reorder list
Grainger’s packaging and shipping catalog includes boxes, tape, shipping mailers, bags, protective packaging, stretch wrap and related equipment. Uline also provides product routes and buying guides for these packaging families. That overlap makes a line-by-line comparison useful; it does not make every item from the two suppliers interchangeable.
Write down the original model and the features your operation requires. For boxes, include inside dimensions, construction and the specified strength grade. For bags and mailers, record usable fit, film and closure. For tape and film, record roll dimensions, formulation or construction, equipment fit and purchase count. Keep brand-specific or approved-item requirements explicit.

Shipping terms can change the better buy
Uline’s standard shipping policy says freight is prepaid and billed to the customer. Use the charge for the actual destination and receiving requirements.
Grainger’s shipping and delivery page describes Red Pass Plus standard-shipping benefits and tells contract customers to consult their contract. Its terms of sale also distinguish web pricing from other pricing arrangements and exclude freight, handling and tax from displayed web prices. Compare the order terms that apply to your account. Do not assume that a program offer gives every buyer free shipping or that a displayed unit price is a delivered total.
Put the same destination, delivery service and required receiving options on both quotes. Record merchandise after applicable discounts, shipping, handling and any additional services. Treat tax consistently. If your order includes freight items, compare the same liftgate, appointment or inside-delivery requirements rather than only the ZIP code.
When to keep your current supplier
Keep the existing approved route when a required brand, product specification, contract or purchasing control prevents a substitution. Include the value of your established order process in the decision: staff time, accepted SKU records, receiving instructions and any approval needed to add a supplier.
If a candidate’s specifications and delivery terms are suitable, trial the relevant packaging in your normal process before changing a recurring order. A lower merchandise subtotal is useful only when the products and service satisfy the same requirements. This page does not rank either supplier as universally cheaper or faster.
Where Packrift fits in the comparison
Use Packrift for a third stock-packaging quote after identifying the lines you need to compare. The examples below are live catalog product routes with listed size and purchase quantity. They are not verified replacements for a Uline or Grainger model; compare the original and candidate specifications first.
| Packaging line to compare | Packrift candidate | Listed purchase quantity |
|---|---|---|
| Slide-seal poly bags | 8 × 6 in · 3 mil slide-seal bags | 100 bags per case |
| Clear acrylic carton sealing tape | 2 in × 55 yd · 2.6 mil acrylic tape | 6 rolls per pack |
| Cast hand stretch film | 15 in × 2,000 ft · 60 gauge cast film | 4 rolls per case |
A requirement for 1,000 bags is ten 100-bag cases of the listed slider format. A requirement for 36 tape rolls is six of the listed six-packs. These examples normalize physical quantities; they do not equate different products or promise a saving. Open the linked product for current price and availability, then add shipping for the actual order.
Compare a complete basket
For each line, record the original model, proposed product, purchase increment, total pieces or rolls, and delivered charge. Keep a separate line for an unmatched item instead of forcing a substitution. Use the delivered-cost worksheet for one matched item or request a line-by-line quote for a mixed basket.
Once you approve a candidate, retain the accepted SKU, receiving requirements and reorder quantity. Packrift is independent of both Uline and Grainger. The comparison here covers packaging buying decisions, not every product or account feature in either supplier’s catalog.

Questions before switching
Is Uline or Grainger cheaper for packaging?
The answer depends on the matched items, quantities and order terms. Compare applicable merchandise prices, freight and receiving services for the same specification and destination.
Does Grainger always provide free shipping?
Check the terms that apply to your order. Grainger describes shipping benefits for Red Pass Plus and directs contract customers to their contracts; a program offer is not a universal quote for every buyer or delivery service.
Can Packrift replace my whole Uline or Grainger order?
Review the order line by line. Keep any item whose approved brand, specification or purchasing requirement cannot be matched. The stock packaging examples here do not establish a replacement for every line.
Packrift is an independent seller and is not affiliated with Uline or Grainger. The products listed here are options to evaluate; no Uline or Grainger model equivalence, price saving or performance guarantee is implied. Confirm current product details, availability and delivered charges before ordering.
