Common questions
Will this lid fit both plastic and steel 55-gallon drums?
Yes. The universal design accommodates both plastic and steel drum types with the same secure fit. The included 3 metal clips and thumb screws work on any standard 55-gallon drum rim.
Is this lid compliant with DOT and OSHA shipping requirements?
The Rubbermaid® Brute® Steel Dome Lid meets industrial containment standards. For hazardous materials transport, verify specific DOT classifications with your compliance officer, as requirements vary by substance type.
What makes 20 gauge steel better than thinner gauges for our operation?
20 gauge steel (0.0359" thickness) provides puncture resistance and impact durability in high-traffic facilities. Thinner gauges dent easily and require replacement, increasing total cost of ownership. 20 gauge extends lid lifespan by 3-5 years in industrial settings.
How quickly can we install this on existing drums without tools?
Installation takes under 2 minutes per drum. The thumb screws require no wrenches or power tools, simply align the dome, position the 3 metal clips on the drum rim, and hand-tighten screws. Training for staff takes minutes, not hours.
