Common questions
Will 3M 231 masking tape leave adhesive residue on painted surfaces?
No. The rubber adhesive formulation removes cleanly from powder-coated and stainless steel surfaces without leaving residue or causing surface damage. Clean removal is guaranteed when applied and removed at recommended temperatures.
Can this tape withstand high-temperature paint and powder coating processes?
Yes. 3M 231 withstands temperatures up to 300°F for 30 minutes, making it suitable for most industrial paint and powder coating cure cycles. Verify your specific process temperatures against this specification.
How many linear feet does one case of 24 rolls provide?
Each case contains 24 rolls x 60 yards per roll = 1,440 yards total (4,320 linear feet). This provides substantial coverage for continuous packing line operations.
Is 3M 231 compatible with solvent-based and water-based paints?
Yes. The crepe paper backing and rubber adhesive resist both solvents and moisture, providing reliable performance across solvent-based, water-based, and powder coating applications.
