Common questions
Will this tape work with my existing ATG dispenser equipment?
Yes. The 1" reverse-wound core is the industry standard for most pneumatic and manual ATG dispensers. Verify your dispenser specifications match 1" core size before ordering. Our Dispensers section provides compatible equipment options.
How does 1.7 mil thickness affect application speed on high-volume lines?
The 1.7 mil thickness balances aggressive initial adhesion (instant finger-touch stick) with minimal bulk, allowing fast application without dispenser jams. This economical gauge suits case sealing speeds up to 60+ cases per minute depending on substrate compatibility and environmental conditions.
What substrates does this tape bond reliably to?
3M 987 adheres strongly to papers, cardboard, films, foils, and foam materials commonly used in packaging. The acrylic formula requires clean, dust-free surfaces for optimal shear holding power. Test on your specific substrate and ambient humidity before full-line deployment.
What's the difference between 'quick stick' and 'shear holding power' for my sealing operation?
Quick stick (initial adhesion) means the tape bonds instantly when pressure is applied, critical for keeping cases closed immediately after sealing. Shear holding power ensures the bond remains intact during storage, handling, and transport. This tape excels at both, preventing case pop-open failures in distribution.
