Corrugated layer pads are cut 1/8 inch under a box's inside length and width, so an 11 7/8 x 13 7/8 pad fits a 12 x 14 box. The chart lists every stocked layer pad, chipboard pad and sheet by size with the box footprint it fits, the board grade, pack count and cost per pad, and which type to use for dividing layers, stiffening mailers or tying pallet tiers.
Stocked pads and sheets by size
A corrugated layer pad is a flat piece of 32 ECT board cut to sit inside a box: on the bottom under heavy contents, between layers of product so they do not nest or scuff, or on top under the flaps to keep tape off the product. Pads are cut 1/8 inch under the box's inside length and width so they drop in without bowing, which is why the sizes read 11 7/8 x 13 7/8 rather than 12 x 14. Chipboard pads are thinner solid paperboard for stiffening mailers; sheets are larger blanks for pallets and custom cutting.

For a box not in the fits column, take the inside length and width from the box size chart and subtract 1/8 inch from each; the next size down in the pad table fits with a small gap. For pallet tiers, one 40 x 48 sheet per layer keeps a mixed load flat and lets the pallet count stack to its rated height; the pallet sizes chart lists the footprints.
Layer pads and box strength
A pad between layers does two things for the box: it spreads the weight of the upper layer across the full footprint instead of the contact points, and it stops the contents from shifting, which is the main cause of corner crush. It does not raise the box's own compression rating; for that, step up the grade using the weight capacity by ECT table. A bottom pad in a 32 ECT box is the cheapest fix for contents that punch through the bottom panel, such as hardware, castings and canned goods.
Ordering and handling
- Match the count to the box order. One bottom pad and one top pad per box, plus one per layer of product; a 100-pack covers 50 boxes packed with a bottom and top pad.
- Check flute direction for pads that carry load: flutes should run across the shortest span.
- Keep pads flat and dry. Pads warp if stored on edge in humidity and then rock inside the box.
- Print or stamp on the pad, not the product. A top pad is the place for packing slips, warnings and QR codes.
